About The Practical Garden

The Practical Garden is a small, independent site about growing things in small spaces — balconies, patios, windowsills and tiny yards. It's written for people who have never gardened before and want plain, honest guidance rather than jargon.

What you'll find here

Step-by-step guides on choosing containers, understanding how much light your space gets, picking plants that actually cope with those conditions, watering without annoying the neighbours, and getting through each season. Every guide aims to answer the question in its title near the top, then give you the detail if you want it.

How the guides are written

Guides are based on widely accepted growing advice and hands-on small-space experience. Where conditions vary — climate, aspect, building rules — the guide says so rather than pretending there's one right answer. Guides are dated and updated as things are learned; the "Updated" line at the top of each one tells you when it last changed.

Independence

The site may show advertising or use affiliate links in future to cover hosting costs. If and when that happens, it will be labelled clearly and it will never change which plants or products a guide recommends.
